The Peldemühle Esens is a Peldemühle in the East Frisian town of Esens . It is located in the north of the city on the road to Bensersiel. The Esens local history association has been using the mill as a museum since 1989 .
history
There is evidence of a mill building at this point since 1701, when Prince Christian Eberhard granted permission to build a Peldemühle.
The current mill dates from 1850. After the Second World War , the rotten cap with the wings was dismantled and the wind power drive was replaced by a diesel engine drive.
In 1986 the town of Esens bought the mill and renovated it from scratch by 1989. The mill got a new cap and new blades. Instead of the original louvre flap wings , the mill was given sail gate wings for cost reasons . Furthermore, the codend previously used to track the windmill has been replaced by a compass rose that automatically turns the mill cap into the wind.
After the renovation, the Heimatverein Esens e. V. the restored Peldemühle as a museum space. The inauguration of the museum took place in December 1989. In 1991 the museum was accepted into the Museum Association of East Friesland . From 1993 the mill's outbuildings were included in the museum concept. In 1995 the museum was given its new name Leben am Meer - a mill full of stories . Thematically, the local history museum deals with the settlement history of the Harlingerland and the history of the city of Esens.
