Is an old autochthonous variety from Portugal.
Ampelographic features
- The tip of the shoot is very woolly to tomentose and has reddish edges.
- The young leaves are faintly five-lobed, light green and slightly blistered. The leaves are large, five-lobed with a broad central lobe, dark green and have an open to slightly touching V-shaped stem. The underside of the leaf is hairy and lightly rust-colored. The leaf margin is weakly serrated.
- The grape is medium to large, conical, very compact with a short stem. The berries are small to medium-sized, oval and have a thick berry skin. The berries are colored blue and are lightly scented. The berry flesh is bright red and very juicy.
Maturity : late
properties
The variety is very productive and robust. It does not place high demands on the soil and should be planted in appropriate locations because of its late ripeness. Then there is also a good color yield. it has a low susceptibility to oidium and botrytis.
Wine
The wine is extremely rich in tannins and, as a young wine, is occasionally plump and strict to aggressive. The wines are only ready to drink after a long period of storage and are then full, strong, acidic, delicately fruity with sometimes pronounced cassis notes. Wines made from pure varietals have a purple-red color, are long-lived and have good development potential.
