description

The Baggerelbe begins near Neuderbe on the Pareyer connecting canal , a federal waterway . This connects the Elbe and the Elbe-Havel Canal . Behind the Parey lock , the Baggerelbe branches off as an independent federal waterway. The official abbreviation of the federal waterway in this area is BEl. It is the responsibility of the Brandenburg Waterways and Shipping Office . About two hundred feet behind a branch with a deck port the further passage is for the commercial shipping locked. Sports and leisure shipping is allowed to sail the Baggerelbe as far as a blocking Elbe dike in Derben .

Behind the dike is an isolated, non- navigable section of the Baggerelbe, which can only be navigated with small boats, which is again sealed off from the estuary by a dam. The branch of the estuary to the Elbe is again a federal waterway. Its official name is Altarm Baggerelbe Derben (ABElD). It is the responsibility of the Waterways and Shipping Office Magdeburg . The Hermann Barthel shipyard is located on the east bank .

The Baggerelbe lies entirely in the EU SPA area Elbaue Jerichow (SPA0011).

history

The Baggerelbe takes its name from the dredging work that has to be carried out continuously . The old Elbarm was the mouth of the Plauer Canal, which was built between 1743 and 1745. Due to silting , there were repeated problems with diving depth , so that the fairway had to be dredged repeatedly . Between 1883 and 1891, the mouth of the Plauer Canal, today part of the Pareyer connecting canal, was relocated about 3.5 kilometers up the Elbe, creating the Baggerelbe.
