The Bahía Inútil is a bay in the Strait of Magellan in southern Chile on the west coast of the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego opposite the Isla Dawson . The bay owes its name ("useless bay") to the fact that, due to its wide opening and gently sloping coastline, it offers no protection to ships from stormy westerly winds.
The Bahía Inútil, 30 km wide and 60 km long, is within sight of the Cordillera Darwin ; Onaisín and Villa Cameron are the most important settlements in this region.
Since around 2010 the bay in Parque Pingüino Rey has been home to a colony of king penguins with around 90 animals.
