Railway construction center

The railway construction headquarters was one of 1976 existed until at least 1991 organizational unit of the German Federal Railways for planning and construction of the first new lines of high-speed traffic in Germany.

In April 1976 the Federal Railroad set up the railway construction center , which was responsible for the planning and construction of the line and was directly subordinate to the board of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. The M / S project group was formed and subordinated to the new Mannheim – Stuttgart line in the same year . It was authorized to issue instructions to the federal railway departments involved .

The board of directors of the Deutsche Bundesbahn set up three project groups for the new Hanover – Würzburg line in October 1978.

At the beginning of the 1980s, the railway construction center was assigned to board department 3 (technology) in the headquarters of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. He was initially subordinate to the New Construction Lines Department (FbN). This included Section N 1 (construction management, budget) and Section N 2 (technical planning principles for new and upgraded routes ). Four project groups in the directorates were subordinate to these organizational units in the head office :

  • Project group Mannheim - Stuttgart ( PGr M / S ) based in Karlsruhe
  • Project group Hanover - Würzburg ( PGr H / W Nord ) based in Hanover
  • Project group Hanover - Würzburg ( PGr H / W Mitte ) based in Frankfurt am Main
  • Project group Hanover - Würzburg ( PGr H / W Süd ) based in Nuremberg

The groups were located at the respective Federal Railway Directorates to which they were affiliated in terms of administration and personnel. The head of the railway construction center reported directly to the technical officer.

The project group H / W North had around 150 employees in the early 1980s. Four planning departments were subordinate to the project manager, each responsible for a 30 to 40 km long section.

In the 1980s, the NBS Karlsruhe project group was also entrusted with the new and upgraded Karlsruhe – Basel line . She was also entrusted with the planning of the new Cologne – Rhine / Main line .

The railway construction center existed until at least the end of 1991.
