Alicante Terminal (Valencian Alacant Terminal ) is the largest train station in the Spanish city of Alicante . It is owned by Adif and served by RENFE with long-distance and regional trains. It has been connected to the Spanish high-speed rail network since June 2013.
history
The station was opened in 1858 as the terminus of a railway line from Madrid. In 1853 the construction of the Almansa – Alicante line began. In 1967 and 1968 the station was completely rebuilt. On June 18, 2013, the second section of the Madrid – Levante high-speed line between Albacete and Alicante went into operation. Since then, Alicante Terminal has also been served by standard-gauge high-speed trains of the Alta Velocidad Española class . In preparation for this connection, extensive renovation work began in 2010.

Long-distance transport
In long-distance traffic, Alicante is the junction of two axes: the standard-gauge high-speed line to Madrid and the Iberian broad-gauge axis Alicante-Valencia-Barcelona. AVE and Alvia run to Madrid, among others, the Alvia go beyond the capital to destinations in northern Spain, such as Santiago de Compostela. The broad-gauge long-distance trains Alaris and Euromed connect Alicante via Valencia with Barcelona-Sants and Barcelona-França . There are also Talgo connections to Lorca-Sutullena and Barcelona-Sants.

In the Media Distancia network, trains connect Alicante with Albacete, Ciudad Real, Valencia, Murcia and Cartagena.
Cercanías
Alicante Terminal is served by two lines in the Cercanías Alicante / Murcia network:
- The C1 line connects Alicante with Elche and Murcía
- Line C3 connects Alicante with the University and Sant Vincent
In addition, four lines of the Alicante light rail service the station.
