List of train stations in Belgium |
The Antwerp-Dam train station is a disused station of the NMBS / SNCB in Antwerp . It is located on the Antwerp – Netherlands railway line . Only regional trains stopped at the four platform tracks . The trains connected Antwerp Dam with Roosendaal and Antwerp Central Station .
The station was opened in 1854 under the name "Stuyvenberg" until 1905, when the station was given its current name. In 1907 the station was moved 36 meters with the construction of the “eastern ring line” ( oostelijk ringspoor ), as demolition and a new construction would have been significantly more expensive.
In 2000 the freight yard was closed and relocated to the Antwerp-Noord station near the port . The station only received the neo-Gothic station building in 1892; it is a listed building. The station is located next to the ramp that leads into the new tunnel that takes the trains below the center to the main station.
The station has been closed since December 11, 2011 after the L-train connection Antwerp – Essen – Roosendaal, which previously operated here, was relocated to the new tunnel. A reopening is unlikely.
