The Büchenbeuren station in Büchenbeuren is a station on the Hunsrückquerbahn between Morbach and Simmern .

history

Rail bus in the train station on a tourist trip

The station was opened on December 15, 1902 with the Kirchberg - Morbach section . Thanks to the incline between Sohren and Büchenbeuren, the tracks were built on site when the Hunsrück Railway was built.

The station was expanded in the 1930s. A new signal box was built , the tracks were not extended. After the Second World War , the French occupation began to build an air force base above the village of Büchenbeuren. After only a few months, this base was taken over by the American Air Force. A station with a loading track, general cargo hall and final loading point for jet fuel was built on the site of the base, which was connected to the Büchenbeuren station in 1952. The siding was connected with a new switch in the direction of Simmern. The base became Frankfurt-Hahn Airport in 1993 .

In 1956 the freight hall in Büchenbeuren was expanded to improve the freight connection to the airport. In the same year a ramp was built in front of the goods hall. It was laid out in such a way that US military trucks could approach precisely there. Between 1955 and 1959 scrap was also loaded in the station, which is quite unusual in the Hunsrück . The reason for this was a nearby car scrapyard.

Between 1965 and 1976 there was also a dispatcher in the station. Then train control was set up. The next station with a train conductor was the Morbach station.

The points have been secured by two new key works since 1976 . From 1976 the station was only used for goods traffic, because passenger traffic ended in that year. The track systems underwent various modifications in the 1950s and then small dismantling in the 1960s. At the beginning of the 1950s, the railway maintenance building was demolished. In the 1990s, the loading track was dismantled. Today the two main tracks and track 4 are still used as the access track to the airport.

Since 2009 there have been tourist trips from Morbach to Büchenbeuren. The entertainment border between Deutsche Bahn AG and Touristikbahn was at the level of the former entry signal. In 2012 the tourist trips were stopped again. Since then, the route has been closed. For years, a reactivation of the Hunsrückbahn in regular traffic has been considered.

Station area

The reception building is a type construction for medium-sized reception buildings and is now privately owned. In the past, the building housed a post office in addition to station facilities. Until 1953, the station also had a railway maintenance office.
