location
The breakpoint is on the south-eastern edge of the 1600-inhabitant community of Bernhardsthal in the Mistelbach district in the extreme northeast of Austria. It is the last stop on Austrian territory, hence a border station . The nearest train station to the north is Břeclav (Lundenburg) in the Czech Republic, around eight kilometers away . In a southerly direction, the next stop for passenger traffic is in the municipality of Rabensburg, around four kilometers south . About 1.2 kilometers south of the Bernhardsthal stop is the municipality's freight station, which opened in 1882.
history
After a construction period of a little over two years, the 83-kilometer route between Vienna and Lundenburg was completed on June 6, 1839 with the opening of the 33-kilometer last section from Dürnkrut to Lundenburg, and from 1851 it was double-tracked. The initially provisional opening of the Bernhardsthal stop took place in 1871, and in December 1877 the stop including the stop building was opened to traffic for use. In 1911 a wooden waiting hall was built for customs.
The station, initially referred to as Bernhardsthal stop , was renamed Bernhardsthal Hp on May 15, 1943 and then Bernhardsthal on July 3, 1944 .
Until December 31, 1980 the bus stop was occupied. In 1982 the planned demolition of the station building was prevented due to an objection from the Bernhardsthal community, and instead the building was renovated.
In 1991 48 P + R parking spaces were set up , the financing of which was shared between the ÖBB and the Bernhardsthal community.
Between 1995 and 1997 an electronic signal box and a loudspeaker system were installed.
In 2012, a bicycle shed for 40 bicycles and 5 mopeds was opened, for which the ÖBB, the state of Lower Austria and the municipality of Bernhardsthal paid.
expansion
The station is crossed by two through tracks. The two platforms are edge platforms. These already feature the new ÖBB construction method with a platform edge located approx. 50 cm higher. The platforms are connected by a pedestrian passage. At platform 1 in the direction of Vienna there is a roof and a small station building.
use
The station is served by regional trains from the Vienna region. Due to the location of the station, it is the final stop for most of these trains. These continue to Břeclav only every two to four hours . Direction Vienna and Wr. Neustadt operates on an hourly basis (with the exception of the morning hours and nights). Two bus lines also stop at the train station.
