The Bordeaux-Saint-Jean train station is a railway station in the French city of Bordeaux in the Gironde department . With almost 30,000 travelers daily, it is the busiest train station in south-west France.

TGV Atlantique in the train station

The station was opened by the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Midi in 1898. In addition to trains from CF du Midi, trains from the companies Compagnie du chemin de fer de Paris à Orléans and Chemin de Fer de l'État also stopped .

The station building is located at the south end of Bordeaux city center, at the end of the Cours de la Marne . The station has a large roof built by Gustave Eiffel . It is 56 meters wide and measures around 17,000 m². The station has been served by TGV trains since 1988 ; previously the entire station was renovated and modernized.

To the north of the station, the access route to the station is led over a double-track bridge over the Garonne . This bridge was rebuilt until September 2010. On this occasion it was expanded to four tracks.

Transport links

The station can be reached via regular TGV, Intercités and TER trains. From Bordeaux there are long-distance connections without changing trains to, among others, Paris ( Gare de Montparnasse ), Strasbourg , Brussels , Nantes Toulouse and Marseille . Since the completion of LGV Sud Europe Atlantique in 2017, the travel time of the fastest trains between Bordeaux and Paris has been reduced from the current three hours to just over two hours.
