The Bratislava-Petržalka train station (Slovak Železničná stanica Bratislava-Petržalka ; formerly Engerau train station ) is the train station in the district of the same name in Bratislava on the right side of the Danube.

location

It is located at the confluence of the Parndorf – Bratislava branch of the Vienna – Raaber Railway and the Bratislava – Hegyeshalom line . It was opened in 1897 and extensively modernized in 2001.

construction

The station is designed as a through station in the northeast-southwest direction and has had ten continuous tracks since the renovation. In addition to the main platform at the station building on the northwest side, there is a central platform between the sixth and seventh track. The exit to the northeast has been leading over the harbor bridge since 1985 and then in a wide arc around the city center towards the main station . Before that, it went directly over the single-track old bridge past the old town. The trains to Vienna leave the station in a south-westerly direction. Travel times to the main train station are 20 minutes and to Vienna, depending on the type of train, around an hour.

The track systems are electrified on the one hand with the Slovak 25 kV / 50 Hz power system and on the other hand connected to the Austrian 15 kV / 16 23  Hz system. Trains from Vienna need to change locomotives for the onward journey to Bratislava main station. Since this would be too cumbersome for local trains, the regional trains from Austria end at this station. Until the Schengen expansion in 2007, it was also a border station in the direction of Austria with the necessary passport controls.

Until it was shut down in 1945, the Pressburger Bahn also ran into the station from the south-west. Until recently, some industrial connections were served via these tracks.
