The harbor bridge ( Prístavný most in Slovak , formerly Most hrdinov Dukly , in German Bridge of the Dukla Heroes) is a bridge over the Danube in Bratislava . It was built from 1977 to 1985 as a two-story motorway and railway bridge. The bridge is named after the Bratislava river port on the left bank .
The bridge is located near the river port and connects the Ružinov and Petržalka districts . It is 599 meters long (1080 meters with access roads) and is part of the D1 motorway and the Bratislava – Hegyeshalom railway line . The bridge also has a walkway and bike lane.
The bridge is burdened by heavy traffic (traffic census 2015: 93,344 vehicles / 24 hours) and is considered a traffic bottleneck in the city of Bratislava, as it has to cope with commuter and transit traffic, among other things. During rush hour traffic jams and driving through the city can be made difficult by just a minor traffic accident on the bridge. An extension of the carriageway was rejected for static reasons. In 2005 the new Apollo Bridge was opened upstream , which had taken over part of the rush hour traffic. Further downstream, between Jarovce and Podunajské Biskupice , a new, almost 3 km long motorway bridge is being built as part of the D4 ring motorway , which will take over transit traffic when it is completed and thus further defuse the situation on the port bridge.
