The Apollo Bridge (in Slovak : Most Apollo ; planned as Most Košická : Bridge of Kaschauer Strasse) is the newest bridge in Bratislava , Slovakia , over the Danube . It opened on September 5, 2005. The bridge is 854 meters long, with a 231 meter long main arch over the Danube. This bridge is intended to relieve the other three major Danube bridges , the Prístavný most (on the D1 motorway ), the Starý most and the Nový most .
The bridge is named after the Apollo refinery founded in Bratislava in 1895 , which was located northwest of the bridge and was destroyed in bombing raids during the Second World War in June 1944. The refinery of the later nationalized mineral oil company Slovnaft , which was rebuilt at this location , remained in operation until the 1960s .
