Axel Schur

Ernst Viktor Axel Schur (born May 9, 1891 in Dorpat , Estonia , † April 5, 1930 in Bonn ) was a German mathematician and university professor .

Life

Axel Schur, the son of the mathematician Friedrich Schur , fought in the First World War from 1915 to 1918 as an army soldier. He was then in 1921 under the supervision of his doctor father Emil Hilb at the University of Würzburg Dr. phil. PhD . His dissertation from 1920 was entitled “On the development of arbitrary functions according to solutions of systems of linear differential equations” (Springer Verlag, Berlin 1920).

From 1921 to 1922 he was an assistant at the Mathematical Department of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . From 1923 he taught as a private lecturer for geometry at the Technical University of Hanover . In 1927 he moved to the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn as a private lecturer for geometry and as an assistant at the mathematical seminar .
