The Burgdorf (Han) Station is an operating agency of Lehrte-Celle railway . The train station is in Burgdorf in the Hanover region . It is integrated with two lines in the S-Bahn network of the Hanover region and is served by the S6 and S7 by overlapping each other every half hour.

location

The train station is located between the city center and Weststadt and is therefore very central. There is a bus station at the station forecourt . To the north-east there is a branch of the Raiffeisen-Warengenossenschaft Osthannover eG, which formerly also had sidings.

The first station building was built between 1845 and 1850 and is a monument. The Hanoverian court architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves also contributed to the plans . It is a two-story, massive main building with a flat gable roof, plastered except for the basement, with the gables facing the track and the street. The regularly arranged windows were rectangular on the ground floor, and there were arched windows on the first floor. To the north was a one-story wing with a flat gable roof, although the eaves faced the track. This also contained the entrance from the street side, which was accessible via a flat terrace with stairs. A pergola was in front of the extension on the track side. There was a waiting room and a restaurant on the first floor. To the north of the building was a small one-story outbuilding with the toilets and storage rooms.

In 1959 the extension was torn down and a partly two-storey new building was erected, which was not significantly higher than the old extension because the basement was not used. It had a reception hall with a large glass front, which was now accessible at ground level. Ticket issuance and baggage handling were located here. There was an official apartment on the upper floor. The old building housed the restaurant, an apartment for the landlord and from 1965 also the signal box.

After minor modernization work had already been carried out in the reception building and on the platform around the turn of the millennium and in preparation for the Expo 2000 , the station, including the tunnel system and forecourt, was renovated and partially rebuilt as part of an immediate program by Deutsche Bahn to beautify its stations in spring 2005. This included the conversion of the former luggage storage rooms into a DB service store.

The station has a covered central platform that can be reached from the station building via an underpass with access from both sides or via a pedestrian tunnel running south of the building. A house platform is no longer available.

history

The railway line and the train station were built on the western outskirts of Burgdorf, only later did the city grow far to the west beyond the railway line. From 1908 to 1961 the station of the Burgdorfer Kreisbahnen was located northeast of the state train station in the vicinity of the freight tracks . It had its own station building and a locomotive shed, both buildings were only demolished after 2000. For those transferring passengers, a walk of around 500 meters was required. By operating the Riedel potash works, the oil fields and the army ammunition facility , considerable freight transport services were incurred at times, which were transferred to the state railway in Burgdorf. Since the regional reform (1974), the Otze ( Category 6) and Ehlershausen (Category 5) stations have also been in the municipal area of the city of Burgdorf.

In 1965, the Lehrte – Celle line was electrified, since then, until the S-Bahn began operating in 2000, local express trains consisted of locomotives with silver coins .

The station has been remote-controlled from Lehrte since 1994.

traffic

Rail transport

The station is connected to Hanover, Celle and the other surrounding communities by the S6 and S7 lines of the Hanover S-Bahn : While the S7 on the way to Hanover in Lehrte is "headed" and serves all stations on the route, the S6 stops not in Lehrte and leaves out other smaller stations, which speeds up it significantly.

The station was only ever served by local trains, in the past there were also occasional express trains .

A siding north of the passenger station is left of the former freight transport facilities.
