The Dömitz station was the station of the eponymous town of Dömitz in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It was used in passenger traffic until 2000. The facility with reception building, goods handling building, two sheds and storage with hand crane is on the district's list of historical buildings.

history

The station was created with the construction of the Wittenberge – Buchholz railway line , which crossed the Elbe at Dömitz , for which the construction of a corresponding bridge structure was necessary by 1873. The section from Wittenberge to Dömitz was opened on December 15, 1873. In 1874 passenger traffic could be started over the Elbe bridge. The Dömitz – Malliss section of the line to Ludwigslust was handed over on December 29, 1889.

With the bombing of the Elbe bridge on April 20, 1945, the line to Buchholz was cut off and the bridge structure with the division of Germany was not rebuilt. The section to Wittenberge was still used after the Second World War, but was dismantled in 1947 as a reparation payment .

From then on, Dömitz station was only the terminus of the Ludwigslust – Dömitz railway line . The cessation of freight traffic on January 1, 1997 was followed by the cessation of passenger traffic on May 27, 2000. The line was closed on April 11, 2001 and dismantled in the following years.

The entrance building has been privately owned by auction since 2008. At times apartments were still rented. On the night of August 10th to 11th, 2011, a fire that affected the entire roof structure caused considerable damage to the structure, which was already vacant at the time. In another fire on June 11, 2012, all three floors of the building burned down.

passenger traffic

The traffic statistics of the Altona railway district for 1909 show the sale of a total of 72,435 tickets for the period from April 1, 1909 to March 31, 1910 . 38,382 of these tickets were sold in the Prussian State Railways division , which owned the Wittenberge – Buchholz line. The Großherzoglich Mecklenburgische Friedrich-Franz-Eisenbahn (MFFE) , which built the line to Ludwigslust and operated it until 1920, sold 34,053 tickets.
