Frankenstein station is part of the municipality of Oberschöna in the district of central Saxony (Free State of Saxony ). It was built in the 19th century in the corridor of the Wegefarth district as a railway settlement near the Frankenstein (Sachs) train station on the Dresden – Werdau railway line . Together with Wegefarth, the estate has belonged to Oberschöna since July 1, 1950.

In the course of the construction of the Dresden – Werdau railway line, a railway settlement called "Bahnhof Frankenstein" was built around the Frankenstein (Sachs) station around 1869 . Although the station is located in the south-western district of Wegefarth, 1.8 km away, it was given the name of the least distant village of Frankenstein (0.5 km to the west). Oberschöna, east of the train station, is also 1 km closer to the station than Wegefarth.

Due to its location on the connecting road Frankenberg / Sa. - Freiberg and the railway station on the Dresden – Werdau railway line, the settlement used to be a regional transport hub for the surrounding villages with service facilities, craft businesses and a cooperative agricultural market.

With the incorporation of Wegefarth to Oberschöna, the Bahnhof Frankenstein settlement has belonged to the municipality of Oberschöna since July 1, 1950. Today the station is only a regional train stop. However, there is still a metal processing company (nail production).
