The Gartz (Oder) train station was the station of the city of Gartz (Oder) in what is now the district Uckermark . It was the end of the Tantow – Gartz railway line . It was opened in 1913 and closed after the Second World War . In 1948 the line was dismantled as a reparation payment .
location
The train station is about 500 m west of the Gartzer town center. This is where the route from Tantow ended . The next stop to the north was the Geesow stop about five kilometers away. The distance from Gartz train station to the starting point of the line in Tantow was 7.3 km.
Investments
Platforms and tracks
For the fact that the Gartzer Bahnhof had the clearance rights for passenger, baggage, express goods and goods traffic in domestic and international goods traffic, the railway facilities provided for this were not too extensive. There was a loading track with a head and side ramp as well as two operating tracks and a butt track ending in the locomotive shed , as well as the main track and a private siding to a storage facility near the station.
Further sidings led from the station to a warehouse and a nail factory.
Reception building
While the railway line to Tantow was being built , the Gartz City Administration negotiated with KED Stettin about the exact location of the building. Ultimately, the request of the magistrate was implemented and this was built on the western side of the station. Gartz therefore incurred additional costs for an access road, as the original plan was to use an existing country road for this purpose.
The customs office and an undertaker were housed here. After the fall of the Wall , it was used as a service building by the Federal Border Police. It is now used as a residential and office building.
Railway station restaurant
In addition to the service rooms and a service apartment, there was a restaurant in the station building with an area of 72.82 m². The leasing of the restaurant was in great demand from national applicants. Despite the dismantling of the line, operations continued after 1945. An innkeeper from Berlin took over the restaurant. The travel department of the Reichsbahndirektion Greifswald confirmed the good management of the restaurant and the turnover for the first half of the year was 68,774 marks. Due to the dismantling of the route and the lack of travel traffic, the landlord recorded a steady decline in sales since around 1949. Many applications to reduce the rent were not taken into account, so that the station restaurant was no longer profitable. The landlord left Gartz on July 1, 1949. The Deutsche Reichsbahn wanted to give up the restaurant, especially since the Gartzer vocational school was planning to lease the rooms for 200 marks (East) annually. However, the city of Gartz (Oder) decided to keep the restaurant. At first a pensioner took over the business temporarily, then a local woman until 1956. Their illness at the beginning of 1956 followed the closure of the restaurant. On June 15, 1956, the lease was terminated. The Deutsche Reichsbahn handed over the complete equipment of the premises of the station management in Casekow .
The restaurant rooms were taken over by the nationally owned trade organization (HO). This opened a furniture store there on August 1, 1956. The goods handling facility had already been used as a furniture store by the HO .
