Reich Railway Directorate Greifswald
The Reichsbahndirektion Greifswald (abbreviated Rbd Greifswald ) was an administrative district of the Deutsche Reichsbahn , which existed from 1945 to 1990.
history
The Reichsbahndirektion was established on October 6, 1945 on the orders of the Soviet occupying power by relocating the Reichsbahndirektion Stettin from Pasewalk to Greifswald . In addition to the lines of the Stettin Railway Directorate remaining in the Soviet occupation zone, the area of management also included parts of the dissolved Eastern Railway Directorate and ceded areas from the Schwerin Railway Directorate . The management area expanded again on April 1, 1949 with the takeover of numerous private and small railways. On April 1, 1955, Greifswald received routes from Schwerin again. In the course of German reunification, the Greifswald Railway Directorate was dissolved on October 15, 1990. Your area came completely to the Reich Railway Directorate Schwerin.
Facilities
Subordinate offices were the Reichsbahnämter Stralsund , Neustrelitz and Pasewalk . Furthermore, the Rbd Greifswald had the Reichsbahnausbesserungswerke (Raw) in Eberswalde and Greifswald until the 1960s, and between 1952 and 1970 the Raw Malchin. The Raw Greifswald was converted in the 1960s to the motor vehicle repair shop of the Reichsbahn and the Raw Malchin became part of the Raw Eberswalde on January 1st, 1971.
The railway ferry connection Sassnitz – Trelleborg was directly under the management and control of the Reichsbahndirektion. From 1982 the Mukran ferry complex was built as the last major transport construction project in the GDR for the railway ferry connection to the Lithuanian Klaipėda ( German Memel) . The liner service was started in 1986.
