List of train stations in Switzerland |
The Geneva Airport railway station is the station of Geneva airport . It is the only pure long-distance train station in Switzerland that was planned and is still operated as such. The operator is the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).
Location and architecture
The station is located in the municipality of Le Grand-Saconnex as an underground terminus under the forecourt of the airport, 250 meters from the terminal. Also nearby, around 500 meters away, is the Geneva trade fair and exhibition center Palexpo . In addition to the Zurich airport train station and the two underground stations Museumsstrasse and Löwenstrasse of the Zurich main station , it is one of the four underground train stations on the SBB network. The terminus includes two central platforms and was built in a postmodern style similar to the Zurich airport train station.
history
The station opened in 1987. For connection to the city of Geneva train station Cornavin was railway line Lausanne-Geneva extended throughout double. Between Cornavin and the La Châtelaine service station , it shares the route with the SNCF line to Lyon ; the section has been expanded to three lanes (two SBB tracks, one SNCF track) due to the different overhead line voltages. A long-term expansion of the station's capacity is planned until 2030 as part of the expansion of the Lausanne – Geneva railway line. The expansion, with the canton of Geneva contributing around CHF 35 million, relates less to an expansion of the station itself than to a conversion of the La Châtelaine junction .
traffic
The station is served by four long-distance trains every hour, the journey time to Geneva's Cornavin main station is six minutes.
- 1 Genève-Aéroport - Bern - Zurich HB - St. Gallen BZ RZ
- 5 Genève-Aéroport / Lausanne - Biel / Bienne - Zurich HB (- St. Gallen ) BZ RZ FZ TT , every half hour, Zurich – St. Gallen every hour.
- 15th Genève-Aéroport - Lausanne - Bern - Zofingen - Lucerne
- 90 Genève-Aéroport - Lausanne - Brig
Since there are no other stops between Cornavin train station and the airport, no regional trains are necessary and the long-distance trains cover the demand. In terms of tariffs, there is no distinction between regional and long-distance transport in Switzerland.
