Greenford Railway Station
Greenford is a train station in the London Borough of Ealing . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 4 at Oldfield Lane North. The station is served on the one hand by the Central Line of London Underground , on the other hand by the Great Western Railway , whose suburban trains run from Greenford via Ealing Broadway to Paddington . In 2013, 4.35 million subway passengers used the station, plus 0.191 million rail passengers.
Greenford has a special structural feature, a combination of island and transverse platform. The subway stops on both long sides, with a single track in between for the suburban line. Two other tracks, which are used for freight and express train traffic, have no connection to the station. The New North Main Line (NNML), a sparsely used link between the Chiltern Main Line and the Great Western Main Line , also passes the station. However, the platforms were removed in 1963.
On October 1, 1904, the Great Western Railway opened Greenford Station on the NNML, which had been built the previous year. As part of the New Works Program of the London Passenger Transport Board , decided in 1935, an additional double lane was laid along the NNML after the end of the Second World War to enable the underground service between North Acton and West Ruislip . The Central Line ran the section to Greenford from June 30, 1947. For around one and a half years this was the terminus, and from November 11, 1948, the underground trains continued to run to West Ruislip.
