West Ruislip is a train station in the London Borough of Hillingdon . It is located in the Travelcard tariff zone 6 on Ickenham Road and is served by Chiltern Railways trains, which run from Marylebone station in London via High Wycombe to Birmingham . West Ruislip is also the northwest terminus of the Central Line of London Underground . In 2011 the subway counted 1.60 million passengers, the railroad 0.344 million.

Platforms

The tracks lie in an east-west direction in a cut. The station building forms part of the road bridge at the western end of the platforms, with another entrance on the north side. The southernmost track is not electrified and serves as access from the railway line to the underground workshop one kilometer east of the station. In the middle of the layout are the tracks of the Central Line, in the north those of the railway.

history

The station was opened on April 2, 1906 under the name Ruislip & Ickenham , when the Great Western Railway and the Great Central Railway opened the jointly operated Great Western and Great Central Joint Railway (GW & GCJR) towards High Wycombe . As part of the New Works Program of the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB), decided in 1935, an additional double lane was laid along the GW & GCJR after the end of the Second World War to enable underground operations from North Acton . The Central Line ran the route from November 21, 1948. On June 30, 1947, the station was given the new name West Ruislip (for Ickenham) , but the brackets soon dropped.

Originally, the LPTB had planned to continue the Central Line west to Denham , with a stopover on Harefield Road. In 1947, however, the British government declared a strip of land 5 to 10 kilometers wide around the metropolitan area of ​​London a green belt in order to slow down further urban sprawl . Since no further construction activity around Denham was expected, there was no need to extend the Central Line.
