The Hassfurt Station is a passenger station in the Bavarian administrative district of Lower Franconia . It is a through station on the Bamberg – Rottendorf railway line and used to be a separation station where the Haßfurt – Hofheim railway branched off. The station belongs to station category 4 and has three platform tracks used by passenger traffic as well as a siding that is no longer connected to the rest of the railway line.

history

On August 1, 1852, the railway line between Bamberg and Haßfurt was opened. About three months later, on November 3, 1852, an extension followed to Schweinfurt , 24 kilometers away , which was then extended again, on July 1, 1854, to Würzburg . Initially, the line was single-track, but due to the increasing volume of traffic, the section was expanded to double-track from 1905 to 1908. The station was electrified on September 22, 1971.

About forty years after the opening of the Bamberg – Haßfurt section, on March 15, 1892, the 15.5 km long secondary line to Hofheim was opened. As part of a new school center, a new Haßfurt Gymnasium stop was built on the route in 1965 , which resulted in increasing numbers of passengers. With the cessation of passenger traffic on July 31, 1995 and the closure of the line on December 1, 1995, the Haßfurt station was again the only station in the city.

Since the Haßberge district was included in the Greater Nuremberg Transport Association (VGN), the VGN tariff applies between Haßfurt and Bamberg from January 1, 2018.
