The Hamburg Klosterthor train station (spelling at the time) was located from around 1866 to 1906 south of the Altmannbrücke to Nordkanalstraße / Altstädter Straße between today's market hall and the Hühnerposten in the Klostertor district .
location
The station formed the end of the Hamburg-Altona connecting line , which led north to the Altona-Kiel railway . It was erected in 1866 when they were being built to create a nearby crossing to the Berlin-Hamburg railway station, which at the time was about 150 meters further south . After 1872 the line was extended to the new Venlo train station (later Hanover train station).
demolition
With the start of operations at Hamburg Central Station in 1906, the space for the so-called pillar railway was required and the station buildings were demolished to make room for the tracks to the south, while the track system for the Hühnerposten railway post office was redesigned. This now houses the central library of the Hamburg public library .
