The Horonobe station ( Japanese 幌 延 駅 , Horonobe-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Hokkaidō . It is located in the Soya sub-prefecture in the area of the city of Horonobe .
description
Horonobe is a through station and former separation station on the Sōya main line . This leads from Asahikawa via Nayoro to Wakkanai and is operated by the company JR Hokkaido . All trains running here stop at this station. Two pairs of express trains of the type Super Sōya (consisting of tilting railcars ) connect the prefecture capital Sapporo with Asahikawa and Wakkanai every day . In addition, the Sarobetsu, which is made up of conventional rolling stock, is used on the same connection once a day . Regional trains run three times a day to Otoineppu and Wakkanai. Buses operated by Engan Bus stop in front of the entrance building .
The station is on the outskirts and is oriented from the southeast to the northwest. It has three tracks, two of which are used for passenger traffic. These are located on a central platform that is connected to the reception building on the northeast side of the facility by a covered overpass . To the south of the station there is a small, single-track depot for parking train service vehicles .
history
The Ministry of Railways opened the section between Toikambetsu and Horonobe on July 20, 1925. A little over a year later, on September 25, 1926, the section to Kabutonuma was opened. Apart from a short extension in the city of Wakkanai two years later, the main Sōya line was thus completed. Under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior , the Horonuma Line, a 34.9 km long small railway to Numakawa with a gauge of 762 mm , was built to develop the hinterland . It ran from 1929 to 1948, was pulled by horses and was mainly used to transport charcoal to Horonobe station.
On June 30, 1935, the Ministry of Railways opened a section of the Haboro line from Horonobe to Teshio . It was only 23 years later that the route to Rumoi was continuously passable. In 1973 the Japanese State Railways replaced the previous station building with a new building. On February 1, 1984, for cost reasons, it stopped checking in luggage and handling goods. On March 30, 1987, it shut down the entire Haboro line. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR Hokkaido two days later .
