description

Otoineppu is a through station and former separation station on the Sōya main line . This leads from Asahikawa via Nayoro to Wakkanai and is operated by the company JR Hokkaido . All trains running here stop at this station. Two pairs of express trains of the type Super Sōya (consisting of tilting railcars ) connect the prefecture capital Sapporo with Asahikawa and Wakkanai every day . In addition, the Sarobetsu, which is made up of conventional rolling stock, is used on the same connection once a day . Regional trains run four times a day to Nayoro and three times a day to Wakkanai.

The station is on the outskirts and is oriented from the southeast to the northwest. It has four tracks, two of which are used for passenger traffic. These are located on a partially covered central platform , which is connected to the reception building on the south-west side of the facility by a covered overpass . There is also a restaurant in the building. To the south-east of the station there is a small, double-track depot for parking train service vehicles . In the forecourt of the station, buses of the Sōya Bus company stop .

history

The Railway Authority (later the Ministry of Railways ) put the section between Onnenai and Otoineppu into operation on November 5, 1912. It was actually planned to continue building immediately on the Sōya main line via Horonobe to Wakkanai. However, the Railway Authority decided to prefer a slightly longer alternative route along the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk . The first section of the Tenpoku Line from Otoineppu to Shō-Tombetsu was opened on November 7, 1914. Eight years later, Wakkanai was reached. The section from Otoineppu to Teshio-Nakagawa, opened on November 9, 1922, formed the first part of the originally planned route, which in 1926 also extended to Wakkanai.

For over half a century, Otoineppu was an important hub. In October 1970, took Japanese National Railways a siding to a wood chip plant in operation in December 1971 was followed by another siding at a Shell -Öltanklager. For cost reasons, the state railway stopped checking in and handling luggage on February 1, 1984, which also affected the sidings. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 . This shut down the entire Tenpoku line on May 1, 1989, making Otoineppu a pure through station again. In 1990 the reception building was renovated.
