The Ikawa Station ( Jap. 井川駅 , Ikawa-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Honshu , operated by the railway company Oigawa tetsudō . It is located in the upper Ōi Valley in a sparsely populated part of the Aoi-ku district of Shizuoka . At an altitude of 686  TP in Akaishi Mountains located, it is the highest railway station in Shizuoka Prefecture .

description

Ikawa is the northern terminus of the Ikawa line . There are five regional trains to Senzu every day , where you can change to the Ōigawa main line . The 62 m high Ikawa Dam is located in the immediate vicinity of the train station . The village of Ikawa is about two kilometers away on the north bank of the reservoir. It can be reached either by public bus or by ferry .

The system is oriented from the southwest to the northeast. The on the south side at the reception building located Seitenbahnsteig is due to the limited space between two tunnels too short for the regular passenger transport. For this reason a second track branches off sharply to the left a few meters in front of it and leads to another side platform facing north. The main track runs a few hundred meters further along the reservoir and ends bluntly .

history

After a short section of the Ikawa line had been in operation since 1935, the Chūbu Denryoku electricity company completed the line two decades later and opened the section between Sawana and Dōdaira on August 1, 1954. The railway line was initially reserved for freight traffic to the various power plant construction sites on Ōi and the trains ran through Ikawa without stopping.

On August 1, 1959, Ōigawa Tetsudō took over management. It took up passenger traffic on the same day and opened several intermediate stations for this purpose, including Ikawa. To get to Dōdaira, the passenger trains in Ikawa usually had to go back to the switch and switch from the secondary to the main track. Since the closure of Dōdaira station on April 1, 1971, Ikawa has been the terminus.
