The Senzu station ( Japanese 千頭 駅 , Senzu-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Honshū , operated by the railway company Ōigawa Tetsudō . It is located in Shizuoka Prefecture in the area of Kawanehon Township .
description
Senzu is a combined through and terminus station at the transition from the Ōigawa main line to the Ikawa line . In regular passenger traffic, nine regional trains to Kanaya are offered daily on the Ōigawa main line . In addition, there are several special trains with historical vehicles to Shin-Kanaya every day throughout the year , for which reservations are required. Five pairs of trains run daily to Ikawa and back on the Ikawa line . The station forecourt is the end of two bus routes to places in the vicinity.
The station is in the Senzu district on the right bank of the Ōi River . The layout is oriented from south to north and has 18 tracks. Tracks 1 to 4 reserved for the Ōigawa main line end butt at two central platforms , the covered cross platform is attached to the station building . The angled track 5 is the starting point of the Ikawa line and has a side platform with a shelter. The remaining tracks serve as a storage facility for the extensive collection of historic vehicles, as there is not enough space at the Shin-Kanaya depot . There is also a turntable . Although both railway lines are connected to each other, continuous operation is not possible for passenger traffic due to different clearance profiles and passengers have to change trains in Senzu.
The non-operational steam locomotive No. 49616 of the JNR class 9600 , which was once in service on Hokkaidō, is on permanent display .
history
On December 1, 1931, the Ōigawa Tetsudō opened the Senzu station, together with the last section of the Ōigawa main line beginning in Aobe . The electricity company Ōigawa Denki (later merged into Chūbu Denryoku ) took the route from Senzu to Sawama into operation on March 20, 1935. This first section of the Ikawa line initially possessed mm a gauge of 762, but received one already on November 19, 1936 Three rail track , so that kapspurige could trains.
The narrower gauge was retained for the time being. This enabled the trains of the Senzu forest railway branching off in Sawama to go directly to Senzu in order to facilitate the loading of wood onto freight trains of the Ōigawa Tetsudō. This railway company took over operations on the Ikawa line on August 1, 1959, but the line is still owned by Chūbu Denryoku. After the closure of the Senzu forest railway in 1969, the three-rail track was removed.
