Kentish Town Railway Station
Kentish Town is a train station in the London Borough of Camden . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 2 on Kentish Town Road. There is a London Underground station below the station . In 2013, 6.54 million subway passengers used the station, plus 1.695 million rail passengers.
The station is above ground and is on the Midland Main Line . Thameslink trains of the Govia Thameslink Railway stop here . The subway station is underground and is served by trains on the Northern Line towards High Barnet .
history
The Midland Railway (MR) opened the station in 1868 when they opened the route to their new central station, St Pancras, on the edge of central London. MR trains had previously used other companies' routes to Euston and King's Cross stations. The MR's second largest locomotive depot was located north of Kentish Town station.
The Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead Railway (predecessor of the Northern Line ) opened the underground station on June 22, 1907. The station building designed by Leslie Green , with its glazed red terracotta bricks, is a typical example of the facilities of this era. From the southern end of the platforms, the South Kentish Town station, which has been closed since 1924, can be seen .
