The Kuriyama Station ( Jap. 栗山駅 , Kuriyama-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Hokkaido . It is located in Sorachi Sub-Prefecture, Kuriyama Township area .

description

Kuriyama is a through station and former junction station on the Muroran Main Line . It runs from Muroran via Tomakomai to Iwamizawa and is operated by the JR Hokkaido company. Regional trains run seven times a day to Iwamizawa and Tomakomai. There is a bus terminal on the station forecourt , which is served by the Kuriyama city bus and Hokkaidō Chūō Bus lines (including an express bus service to Sapporo ). Yūbari Tetsudō lines and the Naganuma city bus also stop in the immediate vicinity .

The station is located west of the city center near the Nihonkotsu cement plant. It is oriented from south to north and has three tracks, two of which are used for passenger traffic. These are located on the main platform and on a side platform that is connected to the reception building on the east side of the facility by a covered overpass . The elongated reception building is attached directly to the Kuriyama Community Center.

history

The mining and railway company Hokkaidō Tankō Tetsudō opened on August 1, 1892 the line from Iwamizawa via Tomakomai to Higashi-Muroran . Since the first priority was the coal transport, the Kuriyama station did not open until July 1, 1893. In January 1901 the station building burned down, after which it was rebuilt. After the nationalization of the Hokkaidō Tankō Tetsudō on October 1, 1906, the Railway Office (later the Ministry of Railways ) was responsible.

On October 14, 1926, the private railway company Yūbari Tetsudō opened the eastern part of the Yūbari railway line between Yūbari-honchō and Kuriyama. The trains stopped on the west side of the then five-track station. On November 3, 1930, the western part of Kuriyama to Nopporo went into operation. The Japanese State Railways expanded the Muroran main line to two tracks: in 1968 between Yuni and Kuriyama, a year later also between Kuriyama and Kurioka. Also in 1969 she put a small container terminal into operation. The Yūbari railway line was closed on April 1, 1974 for passenger and April 1, 1975 for goods traffic.

For cost reasons, the State Railroad gave up container traffic on November 15, 1982, and on February 1, 1984 also other goods traffic and baggage check-in. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 . The current station building was completed in December 2000.
