Nopporo is a through station and former separation station on the Hakodate main line from Sapporo to Asahikawa , the main railway line Hokkaidōs. It is operated by the JR Hokkaido company. Regional trains between Sapporo and Iwamizawa operate on a dense, S-Bahn-like timetable. There are also regular express trains called Ishikari Liner from Otaru via Teine and Sapporo to Iwamizawa. Since the closure of the branching Yūbari railway line , no express trains stop here.
There are small bus terminals on both sides of the train station that are served by several lines. While Hokkaidō Chūō Bus uses the western and Yūbari Tetsudō the eastern, JR Hokkaidō Bus uses both terminals.
The station is oriented from southwest to northeast and has two tracks that run on a viaduct . Both tracks are used for passenger traffic and are located on covered side platforms . The ground floor of the reception building contains various shops and serves as a distribution level between the station forecourts. The platforms on the second level can be reached via stairs and escalators.
history
The state railway company Horonai Tetsudō opened the line between Sapporo and Iwamizawa on November 13, 1882 . Since the area was still sparsely populated and coal transport had priority, a demand stop was added on November 3, 1889 . A few weeks later, on December 11, 1889, the Horonai Tetsudō was taken over by the private Hokkaidō Tankō Tetsudō . The new owner then set up a permanent train station. After the renewed nationalization , the Railway Office (later the Railway Ministry ) was responsible from October 1, 1906 . On November 3, 1930, the private Yūbari Tetsudō opened the western part of the Yūbari railway line from Nopporo to Kuriyama .
The Yūbari railway line was closed on April 1, 1974 for passenger traffic, and on April 1, 1975 for goods traffic. For cost reasons, the Japanese State Railways stopped handling goods and checked baggage on March 14, 1985. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 . 2006 began the laying of the Hakodate main line within the city of Ebetsu on a viaduct in order to lift numerous level crossings . The previous ground-level train station with five tracks was therefore demolished. During the five-year construction period there were two small temporary reception buildings. The new structure was inaugurated on October 23, 2011.
