history
The mining and railway company Hokkaidō Tankō Tetsudō opened the station on August 1, 1892, together with the section Iwamizawa -Higashi-Muroran. On July 1, 1897, the section between Higashi-Muroran and Muroran was opened . After nationalization on July 1, 1906, the Railway Office (later the Ministry of Railways ) was responsible. In 1910, it expanded the section between Higashi-Muroran and Muroran to two tracks. On August 20, 1925, the Higashi-Muroran- Datemombetsu section opened .
Further double track extensions were made during the Pacific War : 1943 between Higashi-Muroran and Horobetsu, 1944 between Higashi-Muroran and Moto-Wanishi. For the time being, the last expansion step was the electrification of the Muroran – Higashi-Muroran – Numanohata section on October 1, 1980 by the Japanese State Railways . On November 1, 1986, she stopped checking in for cost reasons. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 .
