In the course of the second expansion stage of the RheinNeckar S-Bahn, the Main-Neckar Railway and thus also the Ladenburg train station are to be integrated into the existing S-Bahn network with the new S7 S-Bahn line. This is expected to happen in 2020. The S-Bahn line S6 has been running here between Bensheim, Mannheim and Mainz since December 2018.
