Ernest Roelof Arend van der Kwast (born January 1, 1981 in Bombay , India ) is a Dutch author and journalist .

Life

Van der Kwast has an Indian mother and a Dutch father. The family moved to the Netherlands in his youth. The boy went to school there and achieved national importance in sport with his achievements in the discus throw . However, he gave up the sport and studied economics .

Van der Kwast published a collection of short stories and a novel using two pseudonyms before his breakthrough as a writer in 2010 with the novel Mama Tandoori , in which his mother Veena plays the main role in the family history. At that time he was editor-in-chief of the Dutch literary magazine Passionate Magazine and organized literary events . In 2011 and 2012 he was featured with a satirical column in the internet edition of the Dutch evening newspaper NRC Handelsblad .

Van der Kwast lived and worked with his partner and two children in Bolzano in South Tyrol , but today the family lives in Amsterdam again . He has written two other novels that have also been published in German.
