The station Ludwigshafen-Oggersheim , including station Oggersheim , is one of the five service stations of DB Station & Service in Ludwigshafen am Rhein , in the district Oggersheim on the railway line Mainz-Mannheim .

construction

The station consists of an elongated group of one to two-story buildings. The representative station building was built in 1853 in the style of late classicism . It closes at the top with a hipped roof . In the course of expansion measures in 1901/02 and in the late 1930s , one and one and a half story extensions were added. It also includes a bunker in the form of a concrete tower with a hip roof built in 1940.

An overpass over the first two tracks was built in 1957. This steel structure still exists today.

From 1995 to 2014 the reception building was used as the “Alter Bahnhof” youth hostel.

Remodeling

As part of the conversion to an S-Bahn station , Deutsche Bahn invested three million euros . Among other things, an elevator system was built on the flyover . The city of Ludwigshafen is investing a further 75,000 euros in the area around the station, including A. the bus stop is to be converted to make it accessible for the disabled . Noise barriers have now also been erected along platform track 1. The investment of an estimated further 900,000 euros for the roofing of the pedestrian walkway is still being discussed.

At the beginning of 2015, Ludwigshafen-Oggersheim station was upgraded from station category 5 to station category 4.

S-Bahn and regional transport

The passenger station has three platforms. Trains of the RheinNeckar S-Bahn and regional trains stop at the passenger station .

The S6 line of the RheinNeckar S-Bahn connects Oggersheim every half hour with Mainz or Mannheim and every hour with Bensheim. In addition, individual trains run several regional train lines, the route of which is extended via the usual terminus to Ludwigshafen (Rhein) Hbf or to Ludwigshafen BASF.

Freight depot

Due to the direct rail connection to the main BASF plant in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, many trains stop at the freight station in connection with this main plant, the largest connected chemical area in the world.
