Railway stations in Thuringia |
The Mühlhausen (Thür) train station is the most important passenger train station in the Unstrut-Hainich district in terms of its frequentation and the only train station in Mühlhausen / Thuringia . It is located east of the center of Mühlhausen in the valley of the Unstrut .
history
Mühlhausen received a railway connection for the first time in 1870 with the opening of the Gotha – Leinefelde line of the Thuringian Railway Company. The previous through station became a separation station in 1897 with the opening of the small railway to Ebeleben of the Mühlhausen-Ebeleben (MEE) railway company . Initially, the MEE had its own station opposite the state station. The Mühlhausen tram began on the station forecourt in 1898 . With the opening of the line to Treffurt , the station was rebuilt, including the MEE station integrated into the state station.
In 1969 the tram was shut down, and in the same year the remaining freight traffic on the last remaining stretch of the route to Treffurt, which was divided by the inner-German border shortly before Treffurt after the Second World War , was also stopped. Freight traffic to Ebeleben was discontinued in 1994 and passenger traffic on May 31, 1997, making Mühlhausen a through station again after 100 years.
The station is no longer of any importance in freight traffic, after 2000 the entire former freight station including the container crane system was completely dismantled except for freight train track 9. The Ms interlocking, which was now superfluous after the electronic interlocking was put into operation, had to be demolished years ago after a fire because of the risk of collapse. The situation is similar with the Mn signal box (vandalism). The locomotive shed at the former site was sold to private customers around 1998. All equipment (turntable, sand tower) was demolished and the locomotive treatment channels filled.
Platforms
The platforms are barrier-free with elevators, they can also be reached via stairs.
