The Mühlheim (Main) station was the station of the Hessian city of Mühlheim am Main . Today it serves - as a stop - exclusively for S-Bahn traffic.
history

The Mühlheim station was opened on November 15, 1873 as a station on the Hanau – Frankfurt line, a section of the Frankfurt-Bebraer railway, which went into operation on the same day .
On November 8, 1900, a serious rear-end collision between a passenger train and an express train occurred west of the station . Twelve dead and four injured were the result.
On May 23, 1995 , the Südmainische S-Bahn was opened parallel to this first line . A central platform was built for S-Bahn traffic. The platforms on the long-distance tracks, as well as side tracks, were dismantled.
Todays situation
The new stop serves exclusively the S-Bahn lines S8 and S9. On the Frankfurt – Offenbach – Hanau line, there is no longer any railway infrastructure , apart from the two mainline tracks of the long-distance railway . There is a transfer point for this route east of the stop.

In the reception building from 1873 there used to be a ticket office and a train station restaurant. It was privatized. After a long period of vacancy, the building was a bit dilapidated. After renovation, there has been a café in the lower area of the building since 2019. Apartments have been built on the upper floors.

The stop has a central platform on the Südmainische S-Bahn. To the west of the stop, the two tracks merge into one in the direction of Offenbach Ost. To the east, the S-Bahn line is double-tracked in the direction of Hanau Hauptbahnhof , after the Mühlheim-Dietesheim stop it becomes single-track again.

The S-Bahn runs every 30 minutes. Since the S8 ends in the off-peak hours in Offenbach Ost, but is tied through to Hanau in the rush hour, there is a 15-minute cycle in the rush hour. In night traffic from 2:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., the stop is only served by the S8 line.

Bus transport
The Mühlheim train station is served by buses on the Offenbach bus route 120 and the Mühlheim city bus route OF-31. The OF-35 collective call taxi, which replaces both bus lines at these times, runs late in the evenings and on Sundays.
