The station Orange is a railway station in the French city of Orange . It is on the Paris – Marseille railway line (km 713.253).

history

Orange station was built in 1853 on the Paris-Marseille railway line when the Lyon-Avignon section was built. The official opening was on June 29, 1854. In 1857 the operating company Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM) was founded, which from then on operated the trains on the route. In 1911 there were continuous regional and long-distance train connections to Marseille , L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Lyon-Part-Dieu .

From 1907, the narrow-gauge railway to Buis-les-Baronnies , which connected the Alpine villages in the east of the city with the station, began on the station grounds. The line was closed in 1952.

Today the station on the edge of the day is also approached by the TGV , which however often uses a bypass without stopping. There are regional connections to Lyon and Marseille.

Railway facilities and the station surroundings

The train station is on the edge of downtown Orange. It has two waiting areas, a ticket office, toilets and a kiosk.

The current building is a new building from 1960, which replaced the former station building from 1854.

Except for the period between 1907 and 1952, when the narrow-gauge railway ran to Buis-les-Baronnies , the station was (almost) continuously a through station .
