The sendagaya station ( Jap. 千駄ケ谷駅 , Sendagaya eki ) is located in Shibuya in Tokyo , Japan .

history

On October 21, 1904, the station was opened by the Kinoe Railway as a passenger station on the route operated by it between Shinjuku and Iidabashi stations . On October 1, 1906, with the nationalization of all private railway companies , the station became the property of the Japanese state railway .

On April 1, 1987 after the privatization of the state railway in the possession of the privatization emerged JR East . Since November 18, 2001, the Suica has been accepted as an electronic ticket at the station . The "green window" ( み ど り の 窓 口 , midori no madoguchi , JR East ticket office which is available at almost every train station) has been closed since March 9, 2007 , as the sale of tickets by staff has been replaced by machines.

Type of construction and tracks

The station is built on the most common type of train station as a through station. It has a total of two platform tracks which approach a single central platform. Only the Chūō-Sōbu line stops at the station .

Surroundings

In the vicinity of the station are some of the sports facilities of the 1964 Summer Olympics such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium and the Olympic Stadium (now the New National Stadium ) until 2014 , but also other sports facilities such as the Meiji Jingū Stadium ( 明治 神宮 野 球場 , Meiji Jingū Yakyūjō ) the Tokyo Yakult Swallows . In addition, cultural institutions such as the national Nō theater ( 国立 能 楽 堂 , Kokuritsu Nōgaku-dō ) or the Shinjuku Gyoen ( 新宿 御苑 , German "Imperial Park Shinjuku") can be found here.

In 2008, the station was used by an average of 21,309 passengers per day, making it 179th out of over 900 on the list of the most frequently used stations of the JR East in 2008.
