The Shinanomachi Station ( Jap. 信濃町駅 , Shinanomachi eki ) is located in Shinjuku in Tokyo , Japan .

history

On October 9, 1894, the station was opened by the Kinoe Railway as a passenger and freight station on the newly opened line between Shinjuku and Iidabashi . On October 1, 1906, with the nationalization of all private railway companies , the station became the property of the Japanese state railway . On February 1, 1941, the goods operation at the station was ended and on April 1, 1987, after the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of JR East, which had emerged from privatization . The Suica has been accepted as an electronic ticket at the station since November 18, 2001, and the “green window” ( み ど り の 窓 口 , midori no madoguchi , JR East ticket office) is closed on March 20, 2008 .

The station is built as a through station in the most common design of a station . It has two platform tracks which are served from a single central platform .

Surroundings

Tokyo Olympic Stadium

The University Hospital of Keiō University , the Tokyo Yakult Swallows baseball stadium and the Tokyo Olympic Stadium are in the vicinity of the station . The Akasaka Palace , now used as a house for state guests ( Geihinkan ), is also near the train station. In addition, the headquarters of the Kōmeitō and Sōka Gakkai are located near the train station.

In 2008, the station was used by an average of 27,237 passengers per day, making it 151st of over 900 on the list of the most frequently used stations of the JR East in 2008.
