The Setana Station ( Jap. 瀬棚駅 , Setana-eki ) is a former railway station on the Japanese island of Hokkaido . It was located in Hiyama Sub-Prefecture, Setana City, and operated from 1932 to 1987.
description
Setana was the western terminus of the 48.4 km long Setana Line , which branched off the Hakodate Main Line in Kunnui . The station was on the southern outskirts and was oriented from south to north. Finally, he still had a track for passenger traffic, with the reception building on the east side of the facility. The line did not end in the actual station, but led about 150 meters further north to a blunt-ended track. For this reason, Setana was not operationally a terminus, but a through station. On the west side there was a parking facility with a turntable , south of the reception building there was a short siding with a small goods shed .
history
The Ministry of Railways built the Setana line in three stages. With the commissioning of the 17.8 km long section between Imagane and Setana on November 1, 1932, the route was completed. From 1966 to 1984 an express train ran once a day from Hakodate via Kunnui to Setana. For cost reasons, the Japanese State Railways stopped handling goods on September 1, 1983, and checked baggage on February 1, 1984. Finally, on March 16, 1987, it shut down the entire Setana line, two weeks before the state railroad was privatized. Nothing has survived from the previous facility; it has been replaced by green spaces and parking spaces.
