The station Spa is located near railroad tracks from Verviers and from Luxembourg . The latter ends today at the Spa-Géronstère stop near the city center, 1 km from Spa station ; the section from there towards Trois Ponts has been closed for passenger traffic since 1959 and was dismantled in 1973.
history
The Pepinster - Spa - Stavelot - Luxembourg route was opened in several stages. On June 16, 1855 it was completed to Spa; The station has existed in its current design since it was extended to Luxembourg on February 23, 1867. At that time, the station was also given its magnificent cast-iron platform hall. The railway construction was carried out by the "Compagnie du chemin de fer de Pepinster à Spa" (railway company from Pepinster to Spa).
Passenger trains in the direction of Stavelot / Luxembourg last left Spa in 1959, freight trains a few years longer. A few years after the cessation of all operations in 1973 the line from Spa-Géronstère to Stavelot was dismantled. In 1971 the line from Pepinster to Spa-Géronstère was electrified , including the Spa station. In the course of this, the platform hall was demolished. While the trains from Spa to the north used to end in Welkenraedt or, in some cases, Eupen , they have been tied hourly to Aachen Hbf since December 14, 2014 . There is storage space for bicycles at the Spa train station.
traffic
The station, which is operated by Infrabel , is served by line L 09 of the NGBE (SNCB / NMBS) every hour between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. The entire route Pepinster – Spa-Géronstère is listed as route book route 44.
