history
Swindon has had a rail connection since 1841 . Swindon's old three-story reception building opened in 1842 . The first historically documented refreshment rooms for travelers, separated according to car class , were located here . Up until 1895 , every train had to stop here for at least 10 minutes to change locomotives. This station was called Swindon Junction until 1961 , when the old city station closed . The old station building was demolished in 1972 and replaced by a new building with office space.
