Outbuilding of the station

The Walporzheim station is a former station building of the Ahr Valley Railway in Walporzheim , a district of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in the Ahrweiler district ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). The building at Neue Domherrenstrasse 4 is a protected architectural monument .

history

The Walporzheim station is today about 150 meters south of the railway line. When the station was built in 1886, the original railway line passed the station and was not changed until 1909/10. Therefore, the old station was soon abandoned and a more modest station was built on the new route. From 1906 to 1917, the station was also the end point of the Ahrweiler electric trackless railway , an early trolleybus operation.

architecture

The station building consists of a ground floor made of slate rubble and an upper floor in half-timbered construction . On the right there is a smaller annex that may have served as a goods shed . An outbuilding also belongs to this listed ensemble.
