Railway stations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania |
The Wismar station is the end point for the regional express -line RE 2 from Cottbus and the regional train -lines RB 11 from Ticino and RB 17 from Ludwig like . Until 1998 the station was also the end point of the line from Karow , which was closed in 2003. Long-distance trains also ran here until 2001. The station building and other structures in the area of the station are under monument protection .
history
After the connection from Schwerin to Wismar was built, a train station was needed at its end point. The chosen location north of the old town offered a convenient connection to the port of Wismar . The first buildings were built at the end of 1847, such as two sheds for material and sleepers or the cyanization building . The engine shed , a wagon shed, a tool shed as well as the coke magazine and a coke oven were added later. Around 28,500 thalers were estimated for the construction of the planned reception building .
When the railway line was inaugurated in 1848, the engine shed was completed, there was also a cattle ramp and a large turntable . Until 1857 the wagon shed was used as a reception hall and shed for goods. There was a station forecourt and a promenade that ran from the Lindengarten to the harbor. There was a train station hotel next to the train station. The former water tower is still preserved. Between 1884 and 1894 the railway system was expanded and the station building expanded. According to a plan from 1896, parking spaces for carriages, private vehicles and buses were to be created on the station forecourt. An underpass for pedestrians was built around the turn of the century.
In 1935, the previous locomotive deployment site at Wismar station was raised to an independent railway depot that was in operation until 1993.
Investments
The station building is located southwest of the platform tracks. The later construction of additional freight tracks made it an island location. A small entrance building was built between these tracks and the town, which was connected to the actual entrance building by a tunnel under the freight tracks. After the redesign in 2019, the platforms and the car park are now barrier-free. Travelers can now reach the platforms via an arcade. Previously, after consultation with the monument protection authority, Deutsche Bahn had the old passenger tunnel filled up. Another, barrier-free path connects the house platform with Poeler Straße. The reception building, front building, platform roofing, goods shed, water station and the locomotive shed Poeler Straße are listed as historical monuments. There are currently (2020) three platform tracks. As the house platform, track 2 has a covered side platform, from which there is still a head track (track 1) to the southeast of the reception building. Next to track 2 there is an uncovered intermediate platform with track 3. To the northeast of the platform tracks there are additional tracks, among other things as access to the port. This is followed by the former depot, and in the far north additional access tracks to the port.
