The Büsum lighthouse is a lighthouse on the German North Sea coast in Schleswig-Holstein .

Location and description

The lighthouse is located near the small fishing , museum and former sea mark harbor near the center of the municipality of Büsum ( Büsum-Wesselburen district ) in the Dithmarschen district . The barrel yard was closed in 2019, and since then the site has been accessible right up to the tower. However, it is not possible to climb the tower.

The previous building was a wooden structure built in 1875 with a lantern that had to be pulled up. The current tower was built in the years 1912/1913 as Leit - and leading light built and has a height of 21.4 meters. The height of the fire is 22 meters above mean high tide and the range is up to 19 nautical miles . The tower was built on a deep foundation in the marshland and has a brick ground floor. It has a conical design, so that the round tower tapers towards the top. The lighthouse consists of prefabricated steel segments and corresponds in its construction (not in height) to the lighthouses of Westerheversand , Hörnum or the Pellworm lighthouse . The tower, originally painted black, has a few porthole-shaped windows. It has only had its current red and white paintwork since 1952. Only the lantern with its two latticed circuits (on different levels) is painted black and has a roof made of copper sheet.

The lighthouse has been operated electrically since it was built and is now remote-controlled from the headquarters of the Federal Waterways and Shipping Office in Tönning .

The lighthouse is taller than most of the buildings in the village, but it is towered several times over by the Büsum skyscraper , which was built in the 1970s and is around 85 meters high (but which has no lighting system for shipping ). The lighthouse is therefore still a lake and landmark .

With the initial issue date 6 June 2013, gave German Post AG in the stamp series Lighthouses a brand worth 58 euro cents out with the image of Büsum lighthouse. The design comes from Professor Johannes Graf from Dortmund based on a photograph by Reinhard Scheiblich .
