The house at Bahnhofstrasse 27

The house at Bahnhofstrasse 27 in Heilbronn is a listed building that was built in 1874 by foreman Christian Zillhardt from Heilbronn.

location

The building is located on Bahnhofstrasse , which leads from Friedrich-Ebert-Brücke to Heilbronn Central Station and goes back to an old Neckar crossing and Fernhandelsstrasse to the west. One of the oldest surviving buildings on Bahnhofsstraße is, in addition to buildings No. 9 and No. 11, the house at Bahnhofsstraße 27.

description

The three-storey building with a sandstone facade and cornices on the ground floor is structured by three window axes, with an alternating window roofing alternating with a simple cornice or a segmented arch enriching the facade. The central window axis is particularly emphasized. This is done by a balcony in the main floor on the first floor, one above the door to the balcony, the head of Mercury was installed.

history

The building is the parents' house of Gideon Bachmann , formerly Hans Werner Bachmann (* February 18, 1927 Heilbronn; † November 24, 2016 in Karlsruhe), who together with his parents Bella Bachmann (born Strasbourg * May 23, 1902 in Cologne) and Ernst Bachmann (born March 31, 1897 Göttingen) emigrated to Palestine on March 31, 1936, returned to Europe in 1961 and later headed the European Institute for Cinema Karlsruhe (EIKK).

In 1950 the building was home to the textile and haberdashery shop J. Armbruster & Sohn, which was run by the house owners and which still existed in 1961.

Art historical significance

While the building was partly burned out in the Second World War , the facade has been preserved in the “high-quality neo-renaissance style ” from the early days . The building is one of the oldest surviving examples of architecture in the upper Bahnhofstrasse and has therefore been placed under monument protection.
