history

Neumarkter Kleinbahn AG

The Neumarkter Kleinbahn was a small railway in Silesia that was built and operated by Neumarkter Kleinbahn AG . The line connected the Silesian district town of Neumarkt (1939: 6,400 inhabitants) with the city's Reichsbahnhof, which was about 30 kilometers west of Breslau on the main Berlin – Liegnitz – Wroclaw line.

The Neumarkt Kleinbahn AG was on September 8 in 1925 by the German Reich , the Free State of Prussia , the province of Lower Silesia founded and the city of Neumarkt and a factory owner that it took over shares.

On July 26, 1926, traffic began on the approximately 4.2 km long standard-gauge line. In addition to two benzene railcars, there were a steam locomotive, a passenger car, a pack car and three freight cars. The company Smoschewer & Co in Breslau was responsible for the management until 1935 . The freight trains ended in the city station, while the railcars, which provided passenger transport, turned onto the parallel Hollandstrasse before entering the city station and reached the Unterring on grooved rails over Liegnitzer Strasse, where the end point was in front of the town hall.

In the summer of 1927, 13 pairs of trains ran daily. As early as November 4, 1936, the railway's own omnibus connection - 16 trips in 1939 - replaced passenger transport by rail. Due to the war, it was reduced to eight trips on weekdays in 1944. It was even put back on the rails on Sundays. However, the three scheduled journeys ended in the city station, as the 700 m long section to the ring was dismantled after 1936.

Polish State Railways

After the Second World War , Polskie Koleje Państwowe ( German-  Polish State Railways ) took over operations. Passenger traffic was not resumed until October 1949, before PKS buses were in use.

The Neumarkt Reichsbahnhof station was renamed Środa Miejska on August 27, 1945 , and was called Środa Śląska from January 1, 1946 .

The Środa Śląska Miejska – Środa Śląska Rynek line was dismantled before March 13, 1950. In 1966 all traffic on the remaining Środa Śląska – Środa Śląska Miejska route was discontinued. Recently five pairs of trains drove daily. The line was dismantled a short time later according to a decree of August 22, 1968.
