Brussels – Quévy railway line
The 75.5 km long, double-track railway line Brussels – Quévy (France) connects the Brussels agglomeration area via Halle (Belgium) , Braine-le-Comte , Mons and Quévy with France.
Operation and history
The railway line built by the "Etat Belge" (in the Brussels Midi – Mons, Ligne Dorsale section ) and the "Nord Belge" (in the Mons – Quévy section) was opened in several sections:
- May 18, 1840: Bruxelles-Midi-Tubize
- October 31, 1841: Tubize – Soignies
- December 19, 1841: Soignies – Mons
- December 12, 1857: Mons – Quévy (French border)
In the 1930s, the line in the Brussels – Mons section was expanded. a. a single-track tunnel at Braine-le-Comte, which was expanded to two tracks in 1957. By the end of April 1963, the route between Mons and Frameries was also re-routed. By January 6, 1963, the railway line between Brussels and Braine-le-Comte was electrified. Electrification between Braine-le-Comte and Mons followed on May 28, 1963, and the railway line between Mons and the French border was also electrified by July 14, 1963. 3 kV are used in the Brussels – Quévy section and 25 kV in the Quévy – France section.

Since the Brussels – Halle (B) section is part of the Brussels – Lille high-speed line, this is where the route is the busiest (TGVs, Thalys, etc.). Only the InterRegio Brussels-Airport-Brussels-Quévy uses the entire route.
