Route description

The line begins at Hersbruck train station (Pegnitz on the right) and runs in an easterly direction parallel to the double-track Nuremberg – Cheb main line to the level crossing with the Hersbruck – Hohenstadt connection road (formerly station 30). There she climbs a dam with the help of a ramp structure and at the beginning of Hohenstadt turns south-east, first crosses the Pegnitz and then federal highway 14 and meets the Nuremberg – Schwandorf railway at Pommelsbrunn station, an operating point with no passenger traffic.

Trains

The connecting line is now used by the Regional Express trains on the routes Nuremberg - Hersbruck (on the right of the Pegnitz) - Neukirchen (near Sulzbach-Rosenberg) - Neustadt (Waldnaab) / Schwandorf (- Regensburg). These run from Nuremberg to Hersbruck on the right Pegnitz route partly together with the train routes towards Bayreuth / Marktredwitz and are then winged in Hersbruck . Are being introduced DMUs Series VT 612 ( "Regioswinger"). In addition, the ALEX trains Nuremberg - Prague ran on this route until they were discontinued when the timetable changed in December 2012 , but without a stop in Hersbruck. In addition to passenger traffic, the route is also used by freight trains, which are mostly hauled by the DB AG series 232 and 233 .
